Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know

From purchasing an original artwork to commissioning something created especially for you, find answers to some of the most common questions about the artwork, commissions, exhibitions, framing and studio visits.
Can I commission a painting?

Yes! I welcome commissions for a wide range of original artworks, including portraits, animals, landscapes, nature, illuminated letters and other subjects. Each piece is created especially for you, with your ideas and preferences at the heart of the process.

How does the commission process work?

We begin with a friendly conversation about your idea, preferred subject, size, medium and any other details that matter to you. Once everything has been agreed, I will confirm the price and estimated completion time. A 50% deposit is required to secure your commission and begin the work. The remaining 50% is payable when the artwork is completed and ready for collection or delivery.

How much does a commissioned artwork cost?

Each commission is individually priced according to its size, medium, subject, level of detail and complexity. Please get in touch with your requirements, and I will be delighted to provide a personalised quotation.

What do you need from me?

For most commissions, I will need good-quality reference photographs, along with any information you would like me to consider. We can talk through your preferred size, colours, style and any meaningful details before I begin, so I have a clear understanding of your vision.

Can I choose the size and colours?

Yes. We can discuss the size, format and colour preferences before your commission is confirmed. I will also be happy to offer guidance if I feel a particular format or approach would suit the subject especially well.

Will I see the artwork before it is finished?

This depends on the individual commission. For some projects, I may share progress images during the creative process. Please bear in mind that an original commissioned artwork is an artistic interpretation rather than an exact mechanical reproduction of a photograph.

Can I request changes?

The commission details are agreed before work begins. Reasonable adjustments may be possible during the process where appropriate. However, substantial changes requested after the artwork has been completed may incur an additional charge.

How long does a commission take?

Completion times vary depending on the size, medium and complexity of the artwork, as well as my current studio schedule. I will provide an estimated timeframe when your commission is confirmed and will keep you informed if anything changes.

How do I secure my commission?

A 50% deposit is required before work begins. Payment of the deposit confirms your acceptance of the agreed commission details and reserves time in my studio for your project.

What happens if I cancel my commission?

The 50% deposit is non-refundable. If a commission is cancelled, the Artist reserves the right to retain the deposit and, where appropriate, offer the completed or partially completed artwork for sale to another customer.

When do I pay the remaining balance?

The remaining 50% is payable when the artwork is completed and ready for collection or delivery. The artwork will be released or dispatched once the full balance has been received.

Can you deliver the artwork?

Yes. I can arrange delivery for an additional cost. The delivery charge will depend on the artwork’s size and weight, the destination and the required delivery service. This cost will be agreed with you separately before dispatch.

Can I collect the artwork?

Yes. Collection can be arranged from Foenix Art Studio in London by appointment. I will be happy to arrange a convenient time with you once the artwork has been fully paid for.

Is framing included?

Framing is not automatically included unless it is specifically stated in your quotation. I would be happy to discuss framing options with you and, where appropriate, arrange professional framing for an
additional cost.

The original artwork belongs to the client once it has been fully paid for and delivered or collected. Copyright and reproduction rights remain with the Artist unless otherwise agreed in writing. This means that the Artist may continue to use images of the commissioned artwork for portfolio, website, exhibition and promotional purposes.

Can I reproduce or sell prints of my commissioned artwork?

Commercial reproduction, printing, licensing or any other commercial use of the artwork requires the Artist’s written permission, unless different rights have been agreed in writing as part of the commission.

What happens if I don’t collect my artwork?

The artwork must be collected within the agreed timeframe. If collection is significantly delayed, the Artist may charge reasonable storage or handling costs after giving the client appropriate notice.

What if the artwork is damaged during delivery?

The Artist will take reasonable care to package the artwork appropriately. Where a third-party courier is used, responsibility for loss or damage during transit will be subject to the courier’s terms and any applicable insurance or compensation arrangements.
